The Buffalo Chips Running Club is
the Sacramento area's largest, oldest, and
most friendly running club. Although some speedy Chips belong, the majority
of our members are beginning runners, recreational joggers, and middle- to
back-of-the-pack fun run participants. We have a walkers group of Buffalo
Chips, too, and a very active youth program, the Chip Youths. Join us for
safe, friendly, advice-filled runs, jogs, or walks at one of our many
workout locations. You need not be a member to participate, but once you
give it a try, you won't be able to resist joining to take advantage of all
the great perks available to card-carrying Buffalo Chips. It's
$35/individual or $50/family for the year and there are all kinds of perks,
1) Anyone interested in self-propelled
forward motion is welcome. Walkers, joggers, runners-from those just
starting a bipedal activity to serious competitors at all distances. Here's
your chance to join like-minded others for safe, congenial workouts. Kids
have a program, too, with "The Chip Youths"!
2) There's a great variety of workouts:
Tuesday evenings: This is the most
popular of the workouts. Over 100 people participate in a variety of
workouts, from huff n' puff intervals to an easy walk, jog or post-race
recovery run. Current location and time: The Boy Scouts Council of America
on Commerce Circle off of Hwy 160 (Canterbury Exit) at 5:30 pm.
Saturday mornings: Tempo run on bike trail, Panera on Howe Ave
Sunday mornings: Weekend long runs on the bike trail alternate
with hill runs in
Rescue (30 miles east of Sacramento off of Highway 50) and around Lake
Natomas and the bike trail.
We invite anyone who is interested in learning the race
walking technique or who wants to walk faster to contact Ann Gerhardt - E-Mail:
3) Fantastic venue for the Youth
of our area:
Our Youth Program is designed to use running as a means of promoting FITNESS
and FUN, with the objective of building CONFIDENCE and SELF ESTEEM -- and
hopefully, some of the fittest kids around. This is a great sport in which
parents are encouraged to come in from the sidelines and play.
The Buffalo Babes are the High School Girls All-Star
Team of the Youth Chips Program and are one of the most successful young
women's cross country running teams in the USA. With several consecutive
years as National Champions in cross-country, this program continues to be
one of the Buffalo Chips crown jewels. Make sure you visit their website to
learn of their accomplishments and up-to-date news at:
4) You get really cool stuff in the
mail. The Buffalo Enquirer, our club's bimonthly 40-50 page "newsmagazine,"

1995) by the Road Runners Club of America. Two club writers have been awarded

to say "yes" to running than "no" to food! Many of the
Herd gather informally after organized runs to graze at various local watering
